A divorce decree is a legal document outlining mutually agreed terms between spouses, specifying arrangements for division of marital property, child custody and financial support obligations. This document is typically required for remarrying abroad, managing marital property, immigration/visa applications (e.g., spousal sponsorship). For use outside China, the divorce decree must first be notarized by a Chinese notary public office (公证处).
How to apply for notarization of Divorce Decree in China?

Notarization Procedures of Divorce Decree Certificate in China
STEP 1. Take the Divorce decree certificate to Notary Public Offices in China.
STEP 2. Notary Public Offices issue the Notarized Certificate to confirm that the copy of the Divorce decree certificate matches the original.
Documents required for Divorce Decree Certificate Notarization
1.Scan Copy of Divorce Decree Certificate
2.The applicant’s Chinese ID card or foreign passport with visa or long-term residence permit in China. Chinese citizens also need to provide a household registration book.
3.Scan Copy of the property ownership proof involved in the agreement. (such as house ownership certificate, motor vehicle registration certificate, etc.)
4.If a third party is helping with the application, the power of attorney is also required.

Processing time for the notarization of Divorce decree certificate is 4-6 workdays, excluding mailing time.
Apostille and Legalization for the Divorce Decree Certificate
For some countries, a notarized Divorce Decree Certificate alone is not enough, and Legalization or Apostille may also be required.
China successfully joined the Hague Convention on November 7, 2023, and became a member of it. Apostille has officially come into effect in China.
• If the country you use the Divorce decree certificate in is in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide an Apostilled document.
• If the country you will use the Divorce decree certificate is not in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide a Legalized document.
